Anorexia Isn't A Choice!

Anorexia has very little to do with food in reality (pun intended ;)) that's just the surface of a complex mental illness which can be manifested from a combination of things such as self hatred, perfectionism, bullying, traumatic events and other factors from biological, environmental and sociological.

You are held prisoner in your own mind, strung up with shackles with a gun to your head. Your captor...

"Do as I say, say as I do whichever way you turn I'm killing you"

It has endless ammo of insults, mind games, distortion you can't escape, you are bound by your captor and worst enemy 24/7 in which you fall in love with it's hate and it becomes your best friend and lover. It rams the gun harder against your head yelling at you how worthless, disgusting and how much of a piece of sh!t you really are like you're nothing and that you don't deserve to live. It sucks your soul from the inside out until you are nothing and have nothing. Death becomes an attractive option I mean after all that's its game to torture, possess and kill you through starvation, suicide or through switching eating disorders or to an addiction.

Anorexia isn't a choice, out of vanity, isn't determined by weight and someone simply can't "just eat". In reality it has the highest death rate out of all mental illnesses and the only person who can truly help you to break free and save you is... yourself.

It is possible! <3

With love
Rainbow :) xoxo

  1. Yup, yup, yup. I think that society, like movie portrayals of anorexia, has led to some gross misunderstandings that it's sheerly about vanity or some pop culture ideal. It kind of dehumanizes what the struggle really is. Totally get it. XO

  4. I love this post Rainbow! I read a post similar to this that you wrote a few years ago, both of those post helped me understand what my sister was really going through. My sister was getting encouragement from her friends saying "I wish I had your body" so I automatically thought that she was doing it to impress her friends or boys but now I understand what was actually happening. It's weird how someone can look fine on the outside but all that is going on in their head. I also used to think that anorexia was just being skinny but now I understand that it can also be other things, I have always thought of underweight when someone said anorexia.

  8. I was going through anorexia years ago. I didn't want to eat or I only ate little amount of food all because I was sad all the time. Also, I kept thinking that I was really fat though I was underweight for a very long time. Now, I changed. I eat well, because skipping meals made me sick. I am happy most of the time so that made a little bit healthy. :) Thanks for this post, this is very helpful and inspiring.

  11. Honestly, you did amazing post, Rainbow and I really like how you wrote about anorexia. And I'm so agree with you that some (or maybe even most) of the people thinks that anorexia is just vanity or choice...but reality looks totally different and I can't even imagine how terrible is being your own prisoner in your own mind...So as I've said before - great job on this post, Rainbow :)

  12. I think we can definitely set ourselves free by focusing less on the insults and mind games and hatred showed to us, but focus more on the good the things that make us happy, we need to accept ourselves for who we are, and block out all the negative then and only then will we be set free. Really awesome post. xoxo

  16. This needed to be said. I personally have never had any form of eating disorder so it is hard to contemplate it and I will not offend anyone who is or has been anorexic by suggesting that I know what I'm talking about. But my best friend used to be anorexic and despite being recovered now she still struggles . Reading this sort of thing helps me see what it is like in her head and how I can best support her.
Thank you for writing this, seriously, thank you <3
